Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lycana?

Lycana is an iOS health companion app designed specifically for people living with lupus (SLE). It helps you track medications, symptoms, lab results, and flare risk with AI-powered insights from Luna, your personal health coach.

Is Lycana a medical device?

No. Lycana is a health tracking and informational tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. Always consult your rheumatologist or healthcare provider for medical decisions.

How does Lycana protect my health data?

Your health data is stored locally on your device, encrypted using the iOS Keychain (Apple's most secure storage). We do not store your medications, symptoms, lab results, or HealthKit data on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Lycana uses anonymous authentication — no email or password required. Your anonymous account is created automatically and tied to your device.

What data does Lycana read from Apple Health?

With your permission, Lycana reads heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep analysis, step count, blood oxygen, and skin temperature. This data is used for flare risk predictions and is never sent to our servers.

How does the flare risk prediction work?

Lycana's flare risk score (0-100) combines multiple signals: your symptom logs, HealthKit wearable data (if connected), lab result trends, and historical patterns. It's an informational tool to help you spot potential flares early — not a medical diagnosis.

Who is Luna?

Luna is Lycana's AI health coach, powered by Claude AI. Luna can answer health questions, suggest meals based on your dietary needs, and provide encouragement. Luna's responses are informational and should not replace medical advice.

Why does Lycana need my location?

Location is used solely to provide UV index warnings and weather-based health recommendations, which are important for lupus management. You can use a manually set location instead of sharing your actual location.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export Data to export your health records. You can also delete all data at any time using the Delete Account option.

Is Lycana free?

Lycana is currently free to use. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but core health tracking will always remain free.
